The Star Nosed Mole
This mole’s nose has 22 tendrils to sniff out its favourite food.
It would be like having two and a bit hands coming out of each nostril! Each tendril is like a finger, constantly moving and five times more sensitive than human fingers.
In only eight milliseconds, this mole’s nose can decide whether something is edible or not. This is one of the fastest responses to a stimulus in the entire animal kingdom. They obviously haven’t compared the star-nosed mole to kids eating cake at a birthday party.
These moles are also able to smell underwater, by exhaling air bubbles onto an object, and then inhaling the bubbles to carry the scent back up through its nose.
