The making of "The Healing"

THE HEALING
This month, I finished my second official portrait for the "Unearthly" series, with my good friend Liz as the subject, and here is the story behind that portrait (well, part of the story!). As each portrait is finished, I am learning so much. It's humbling to experience the powerful emotional and spiritual connection that can be created through art.

Media Updates

As featured artist in two international publications
Renee Phillips, director of Manhattan Arts International, has authored a really insightful article that was published this week. In the article titled "Carrie Webster Creates Surreal Photographic Images" she has written that I have "an uncanny gift for developing stories through montages that are compelling and mysterious." And that my images "leave indelible imprints on our psyches." Wow, sounds impressive, right? :-)

Who is the Hairy Dog Mother anyway?

MEET THE HAIRY DOG MOTHER
I'm not sure where he came from, but I certainly wasn't imagining to be part of my vision for this image. He just emerged from the dark, hairy recess of my mind, or can I blame Photoshop? This character was going to be some kind of evil dog monster, but he evolved into the Fairy Dog Mother, who became the HAIRY Dog Mother, (just to really challenge those fairy tale stereotypes).

Behind the Scenes with the Queen

THE BUTTER DISH
This portrait is of my dear friend Vicki. After many brainstorming discussions on how to best visually represent Vicki's personality, we both unanimously agreed that the Queen of hearts from the Alice in Wonderland story was a perfect fit. Vicki definitely has an extremely outgoing, flirtatious and zany personality, with a wicked sense of humor and a larger than life energy that fills any space she enters.

February 2015 - Moving forwards

Artistic growth is about searching and discovering who we really might be. It's about pushing the boundaries of creative expression and traveling along an unfamiliar path. The truth is, I'm still unsure if I am seeking the path, or is the path seeking me. The future is still a secret, and that's what makes it exciting...

December Art Update

THE SHEEP ARE COMING!

I have finally set a date for my "Year of the Sheep" exhibition, which fills me with both excitement and intrepidation. Two conflicting emotions that often inhabit our minds on a daily basis, but somewhat more pronounced when taking a risk. I have only just finished my last artwork for the Chinese astrology series, ending with the monkey, which should have been fun, right? But I was plagued with so many decisions and not enough visions (ha, it rhymes!), that it took way, way longer than I would have liked.

September Art Update 2014

LET THE HEALING BEGIN..

I don't know about anyone else, but I am finding the world a very disturbing place right now. I am really, truly, deeply shocked to my core by the senseless violence, the increasing number of humanitarian crises that are creating hundreds of thousands, if not millions of displaced refugees, the unspeakable acts of hatred and death, and the fact that the only solution governments of the world can respond with is MORE violence and MORE death...

August Art Update 2014

FINDING MY WAY HOME...

I've been feeling for a long time now that I am experiencing some kind of creative block over the past three months. I've struggled to complete any artworks that I am happy with, and it has really been doing my head in!! It dawned on me the other day that it wasn't so much a creative block I was experiencing, but I have simply been focusing on trying to market my business through various channels, and I just have not had the time to immerse myself in being creative.

July Art Update 2014

DEALING WITH THE UNEXPECTED

I had an unexpected breast cancer scare this month, which thankfully turned out to be nothing. However, I did spend a whole week waiting to have this confirmed, pondering deeply about my mortality. It has actually helped me to prioritise things in my life and assess what is really valuable to me. Apart from all else, I am now giving up diary and processed sugar from my diet. Health is everything.
